"I had a dream that Lemmy was in it," says vocalist Matt Pike, explaining the inspiration behind the title of High On Fire's eighth full-length album.
"When Lemmy was still alive, I was always compared to him, so I had this dream where he got really mad at me. Not that he didn't like it, but he was just harassing me the whole time. With this song, I wanted to tell the world that I could never take Lemmy's place because Lemmy is Lemmy. I wanted to pay meaningful tribute to him. And then the title was so good that the guys wanted to name the whole album 'Electric Messiah.'"
If there's one aspect of High On Fire that allows for a comparison with Lemmy's mighty Motörhead, it's longevity. In 2018, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary. Over the years, the band has honed its distinctive sound, characterized by fiery riffs and thunderous drums, which have earned them accolades not only in the metal community (particularly from publications like Decibel, Revolver, Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Kerrang!) but also from mainstream music journalists.
Publications such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Village Voice are just a few of the dozens of publications outside the metal scene that enthusiastically introduce High On Fire to curious readers.
