Co-produced by Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys) and Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong (Transplants, Jimmy Cliff), When God Was Great is the culmination of their extensive and wide-ranging career. The band brings back friends, tourmates and bandmates from the past for a sonic celebration that emphasizes the power of perseverance and human connection in turbulent times. The album features 15 tracks that were originally born out of a collective sense of loss.
"We were just writing songs before the madness, without any kind of timetable in mind. Suddenly the world changed and important events in a very long career that we had been looking forward to, such as playing with Madness at the Greek Theatre, were taken away from us," explains frontman Dicky Barrett. "With all this time, we started writing at an accelerated pace and we were really inspired. As grim as everything was around us in the outside world, it was the most fun we've ever had making a record."
