Everything here seems to revolve around conspiracy theories. So is palm oil actually fine, or is the deforestation of the rainforest basically a massive disaster? The world appears split into two camps. Fridays for Future, local small farmers, and orangutans seem to agree: not really fine. On the other side, self-proclaimed climate experts push back—like Jan Leyk (known from Berlin – Tag & Nacht). He claims that “that crappy tofu sausage is the reason the damn rainforests are being cut down.” Palm oil, facepalm—whatever.
So what does any of this have to do with the new album from the “left-green-infested” punk quartet Akne Kid Joe? Well, they’re clearly on Team Orangutan and Team FFF, let’s put it that way. But is everything really about conspiracy theories? Anyone expecting a concept album railing against Nutella and similar products because of the title will be disappointed.
Just like on Karate Kid Joe, they rant wildly again here, but the range of topics is noticeably broader. The central themes include—of course—conspiracy theories, but also classic left-wing staples like treason, drinking, and insulting civil servants. At times, though, the new record gets genuinely deep—like with a 1.5-minute retelling of a breakup during an Italian vacation.
