..But Alive is one of the few punk bands from the 90s that managed to avoid slipping into apolitical territory. No empty political slogans, no MTV clownery—...But Alive’s critique of the system remained sharp and uncompromising. Musically, the Hamburg-based band leaned heavily on punchy melodic punk on their third album, Bis jetzt ging alles gut... (1997), pairing it with biting lyrics like “Schreinemakers is a ratings whore” (from the single Ich möchte Ilona Christen die Brille von der Nase schlagen / "I want to knock Ilona Christen's glasses off her nose"). ...But Alive despise the smug state of all-knowing coolness that dismisses any thought of rebellion as a relic of embarrassing naïveté. And they express this not with a wagging finger, but a raised middle one. The album was produced by Christian Mevs.
