This Charming Man Records

White Wine or, as before, Vin Blanc, are Joe Haege (31 Knots / Tu Fawning / Menomena), Fritz Brückner (the recording guru of the Warm Graves record) and Christian Kühr (Zentralheiz Of Death) from Leipzig. The small ensemble, which has grown from a duo to a trio, sounds like an entire Brechtian theater performance - it rattles and tinkles at every turn. Haege is a somewhat crazy chansonnier, the spooky 1920s ringmaster, who is a bit distant but always hits the right notes at the right time. The atmosphere created is consistently dark and oppressive, subtly threatening without being brutal.

There are lots of sounds from the sampler, paired with analog instruments and drums - plus an extremely outgoing Joe Haege, who gets up close and personal with the audience in a baggy suit... Fantastic! Analog meets canned food. Sounds sometimes friendly and warm, sometimes mechanical, artificial and machine-like. White Wine calls these “cheap sounds” that, even if they were state of the art today, would be totally outdated in a few years – the modern world is too fast for us! The resulting logic: why should you even try to keep up with the times? Exactly, “cheap sounds”…

And what is it that the three of them are doing? Crazy chamber pop or cabaret noir indie? Ultimately it doesn't matter. The main thing is that it works and is fun!
