Angry, destructive, and vividly evocative — sitting at the crossroads of modern hardcore, massive post-rock, and ‘90s-style emo. The dark songs grind, stomp, and fight their way into the listener’s consciousness.

Chris (guitar, vocals), David (bass), and Frank (drums) prove that a classic three-piece can create enough noise for an entire orchestra. FJØRT can do quiet and loud, epic and short-and-punchy. They play with elements that would fit just as well on a Turbostaat or Pascow record as on one by Pianos Become the Teeth. What’s fascinating is that it all sounds great without ever feeling forced.

This could well be the hardcore record for the true punk fan — largely because of the vocals that bridge the gap. Vocally, it’s as if a thoroughly pissed-off Jan from Turbostaat were conjuring dark imagery over a Tidal Sleep–like soundtrack. Somewhere between early Escapado, the Wave bands, and bleak post-rock.
