Frammenti were born in Turin in 1991 and, over more than 15 years of intense touring across Europe, released five albums. During the 1990s they became a cornerstone of Italian hardcore punk and a key force within the underground scene. With poetic Italian-language lyrics and an eclectic sound blending wave, hardcore, and the progressive pop of bands like Area and Stormy Six, they anticipated movements such as emo and Italian post-hardcore, selling over 10,000 vinyl records along the way.
Their libertarian and situationist attitude led them deep into Europe’s antagonistic realities, where they built a dense network of collaborations and played more than 500 shows. Now Frammenti return with Merce, a raw and visceral manifesto that explores the contradictions of existence with the rage of those who refuse to surrender.
At its core lies an urgent need for liberation: from conditioning, from the commodification of life, and from the anesthetized desires of a society that pushes us to consume rather than feel. The album is a countercurrent journey between denunciation and awareness, personal experience and collective reflection, driven by the clarity of those who choose not to look away.
The narrative focuses on the least fortunate — on those struggling to survive while the world turns its back; on social poverty that turns into individual defeat; on silent complicity with a system that protects only itself and its own assets. The search for something authentic emerges as a necessity, first and foremost a personal one. Fragility transforms into courage, vulnerability becomes the key to redemption, and the urgency of returning to the source and breaking free from imposed structures comes into focus.
“Life should be an ascent toward internal and collective revolution, not a path of conformity, devaluation, and misery.”
The album closes with a tribute to our roots — to those who have shaped our journey — as if to remind us that, despite everything, what brought us this far still continues to light up the night.
