The title of the seventh studio album by California punk rockers refers to Mike Ness' dual musical heritage. The songwriter and lead singer of Social Distortion pays homage on "Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes" to both the dark America of Hank Williams and the bluesy swagger of the Rolling Stones, especially during the "Exile on Main Street" era. Familiar influences that take center stage here: "Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes" is the band's most rock-oriented and soulful album, despite having sold over four million albums worldwide. However, fans will still find the typical punk rock roar in every track: from the opener "California (Hustle and Flow)" to the dark and rocking Hank Williams cover "Alone and Forsaken." But fans of Springsteen and Tom Petty are also likely to enjoy this sound. "Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes" is the band's first album since "Sex, Love And Rock 'n' Roll" in 2004.
