"Uthlande" is an old term referring to the islands, Halligen, and marshlands off the North Frisian mainland. Turbostaat have become a role model for an entire generation of German-speaking post-punk bands.
Anyone who’s followed the band’s evolution over the past 21 years will say that from the very start, they’ve built a solid, distinctive musical framework and style. Over the course of each album, this has been carefully adjusted and gradually refined.
This is also reflected in “Uthlande.” It’s about the northern landscape, but also about the regions where the social climate brews and intensifies. And that’s exactly how “Uthlande” sounds—like an island being defended, like an entire archipelago.
“Uthlande” was recorded, just like “Abalonia,” by Turbostaat’s long-time producer Moses Schneider at Berlin’s Hansa Studio. Mixing was handled by console legend Peter Schmidt along with Alex Sitnikov.
