"This album contains the first songs I've written in over four years. I had a lot of fun producing other artists, recording two albums of cover songs, and being a husband and father to my three children, and I didn’t feel particularly inspired to write anything. In November 2022, my stepmother passed away unexpectedly, leaving a huge emotional void for our entire family. She had been like a mother to me for over 25 years, the most wonderful partner to my father, and an incredibly present grandmother to my children. For me, songwriting has always been a very therapeutic process—one that has helped me cope with suffering and develop understanding and clarity in difficult situations. With these songs, I wanted to achieve two simple things: first, to honor the memory of my stepmother, and second, to create an album that she herself would have loved."
